Brandon today

To the best of our knowledge we have lost two fellow grads,  Brad Poole (pictured below from our year book) and Bruno Comty.  We just lost Bruno to a car accident a few years ago in Calgary.  Life is short.  At our reunion we'll celebrate the past, be thankful for the present, and remember Brad and Bruno,  two individuals who while a part of our past, gave us fond memories that live today, and in the future.

There will be a silent auction at the Saturday evening event,  funds raised will go towards a scholarship in memory of Brad and Bruno.   Details here.

Bruno Comty  - Notes supplied by the Comty Family, (Jacques and Lydia, and Iesha and Pierre) - with thanks from  the Reunion Committee.

Bruno was born on the 13th of May, 1963 on the small island of Mauritius, a British colony where his father was a crown radiologist. The family moved to Brandon, via England, in 1967.  He spent his youth in Brandon, except for a 4 year span when the family lived in Winnipeg. Bruno lost his mother in 1976, and discovered art as a channel for his grief. The love of art would return later as a pivotal part of his life.  Bruno graduated from Vincent Massey High School in 1981. He spent 2 years at Brandon University taking Geography and Geology, but this did not turn out to be his passion, thus withdrew.  He spent some time pondering life, visiting friends on campuses across Canada. He also spent plenty of time fishing, hunting and painting.  Bruno became convinced that art could be a higher calling and followed through with his dream when was accepted into the well known Alberta College of Art, in Calgary, & graduated in 1991.

For 9 years prior to his passing, Bruno worked at Gienow Doors & Windows, the last few years, as a team leader. Bruno had taken a supervisors training courses at SAIT, sponsored by the company. Bruno took great pride in maximum productivity, and would often rail, to whoever would listen, at the woes of the chain supply management.  Bruno enjoyed spending his free time with new friends & old Brandon high school buddies.  Every long weekend and on some annual holidays found Bruno with a group of best friends in Edmonton. Bruno was close to his parents and family. He made a point joining the family summer reunions and each Christmas near Clear Lake, Manitoba. He was very generous with gifts and time, to his growing collection of nieces and nephews. As the only fisherman in the family he made it his mission to ensure that they all caught at least a fish.  Bruno was an avid outdoorsman and golfer. A hunter and fisherman since boyhood, Bruno had given up his guns for a paintbrush, when he moved to Calgary and attend Alberta College of Art. But he loved to cast a line in new lakes and old haunts in summer, and ice fishing with his Edmonton friends. He joined the same friends for golf in summer.    Bruno was also known for his great sense of humor & love of parties.  Bruno’s other secret passion was cooking gourmet meals!  He was especially great at producing curries and cook at every holiday season with the family.  Bruno departed his loved ones on January 25th, 2001 while commuting to work, on the infamous Deerfoot Trail. Bruno’s ashes are buried in Brandon, alongside his Mother, Maryse Comty.
